The Director-General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, has made an urgent appeal to Nigerians to immediately halt all attacks on security personnel, warning that the growing trend of violence against military and police officers is dangerously escalating tensions across the country. His statement comes after at least 15 separate attacks on security forces were recorded in May alone, including the brutal killing of four soldiers in Delta State and the burning of three police stations in the Southeast region.
Ochogwu emphasized that these attacks not only endanger lives but also weaken Nigeria’s security architecture, making it harder to maintain peace in already volatile communities. He stressed that while citizens have legitimate grievances, violence against those tasked with protection only worsens the cycle of insecurity.
