President Bola Tinubu on Monday launched a major agricultural reform aimed at modernising Nigeria’s farming sector and making it more attractive to the youth. Speaking in Abuja at the unveiling of the Renewed Hope Agricultural Mechanisation Programme, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to turning Nigeria into a global agricultural powerhouse.
“We have over 2,000 advanced tractors, 50 bulldozers, 12 mobile workshops, and more than 9,000 farming tools ready. This will make farming easier, create jobs, and make it ‘sexier’ for our youths,” the President declared.
Modern Farming, New Skills
Tinubu highlighted collaborations with countries like Belarus to train young Nigerians in:
- Modern farming techniques
- Machine repair
- Equipment production
These initiatives are designed to equip youth with skills that promote financial independence and technical empowerment, reducing reliance on white-collar jobs.
Accountability & Oversight
The President cautioned beneficiaries of the equipment to use them responsibly and productively.
“We will supervise and hold you accountable,” Tinubu warned.
He also applauded the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for their efforts in tackling food insecurity and stabilizing the nation’s food system.
